The U.S.A Region of SAE and the Hellenic American National Council, in cooperation with the Greek American Charter School “Archimedean Academy,” are organizing a Symposium on Charter Schools, the lessons we have learned and the potential for growth.
The Symposium will take place August 31 to September 1, 2007, at the InterContinental Hotel in Miami (Details on the accompanying Agenda.)
The purpose of the Symposium is to assess our experience with Hellenic charter schools in the U.S. and the prospects for expansion and improvement of their Greek subject matter. To date, there is plenty of evidence that Charter Schools have met to a large degree the expectations of the Greek-American community as they fill a gap in teaching the Greek language, history and culture to Greek and non-Greek student populations. Drawing on U.S. laws that provide public funding, these schools are an alternative source to offer Hellenic programs in areas where they are not available from traditional sources.
We would be honored and delighted to welcome all of you to the Symposium on this pioneering concept that strengthens the teaching of Hellenic letters and culture. Symposium attendance is free but visitors should make their own arrangements at one of the many hotels in the area.
