What is SAE?The World Council of Hellenes Abroad, known by the acronym SAE (or ΣΑΕ for Συμβούλιο Απόδημου Ελληνισμού) is the not-for-profit, non-governmental organization recognized as the formal link that unites world Hellenism and represents Hellenes worldwide before the Hellenic State.

SAE's existence and mission are guaranteed in the Constitution of the Hellenic Republic (article 108, par. 2), but the organization was originally created by a 1995 Presidential Decree in Greece.

 

THE MISSION of SAE, according to Greek Law 3480/2006, is to

a) Advise the Greek State on issues relating to Hellenism worldwide;

b) Submit opinions on issues and activities important to Omogeneia;

c) Claim authority to propose important actions, activities or laws on behalf of Hellenes worldwide, and

d) Support the values and interests of Hellenism and Hellas.  

 

THE OBJECTIVES through which SAE / USA will fulfill its mission, are to

a) Unite and showcase Hellenism so that it may develop into a position of  substantial power and influence around the world;

b) Support Hellenes in their efforts to progress in society and improve their financial, social and political status;

c) Inspire and encourage Hellenes and philhellenes to participate and support SAE's work.

d) Support Hellas, as the center of worldwide Hellenism, in its just national pursuits.  

 

THE GOALS of SAE / USA are to

a) Support Hellenic education and language in Churches, Charter and Private schools where practical;

b) Encourage Hellenic Youth in America to maintain their links to their heritage and to Hellas, through the support of special programs;

c) Create Networks in the areas of Business, Culture, Academia/Science and facilitate trade and other contacts among Hellenes abroad and with Hellas;

d) Create directories of Hellenes in America, especially of those in Business, Academia, Culture and Sciences/Technology;  

d) Expand ecological awareness, volunteerism, and reforestation in Greece through the "Plant Your Roots in Greece" program.
